right oh, I managed to find a cell phone of reasonable pricage (go me!) and it's small and cute, I actually like it...
three days ago people moved in for the "Melbourne Welcome" that is for international students going to Melbourne Uni, but I am not going to Melbourne, so I'm not really a part of it, but I've been joining in for random things like going to pubs, on walks, and things like that...for the first night though, since it was cold and wet, we all basically stayed in and enjoyed playing card games (myself and about six others started a game of BS or Cheat that lasted HOURS...)
two days ago, I went to VCA (my college for the semester) and found my department to be sooo cool and got my timetable for classes and such...the production department is smaller than some of the other areas, only 68 students, and it's spread out over the campus, I can't wait for monday classes to start!
Yesterday I spent the morning wandering around a park not too far from my room, which was very pretty even in the rain and cold...after lunch I went to the National Gallery, which is so cool! I love the works they have there, but I ran out of time and had to go back for dinner. After dinner most of the group went to a bar/bowling alley called Strike. I was actually really cool, they played good music and the entire place is basically blacklighted and looks great! I managed one strike (go me, cause I'm not very good at bowling). then a lot of people went to what turned out to be a very packed bar, but I stayed back and went to sleep after reading a little more!
finally today I tried my hand at shopping...basically I need a new winter coat (yes yes, andrew you told me I needed one last winter but I was holding out)..I am also very picky about coats, they have to be the right style, the right size, can't be too thick or thin...etc, etc...(thus is why I have no coats, cause I usually don't like the ones I find)
thus I headed to the Queen Victoria Market (imagine Candom town in london but add every single food vendor possible and organization and you have the QV market), where I saw many coats, most over the $100 range, many leather (which I don't really like for a coat) most wool, and lots of very ugly ones too...I found the perfect black jacket for me and it was too small, and the only one there...so after wandering the market for a very long time, I found a nice black skirt that I really like and got that for cheap...then I decided to look around the city...I tried any store I randomly passed for jackets, but I had two problems: 1) since spring is comming almost all the stores have brought in spring clothes and no one is selling black jackets anymore and 2) I hate the new fashion and colors Aussie has for springs...they are really ugly pastel colors and nothing really seems to look like it would fit me...but I still tried, I wandered for hours around the city, looking for basically anything I might actually like of any type of clothing at all, and basically found nothing...either it's a store with the punk fashion of torn clothes and not well made ones, or it's way too pricey for my blood (as in even if my mom was there pushing me to buy it I wouldn't be spending $200 on a shirt), or it's in one of the ugly colors of pastel teal, pink, or just plain brown...
so I have decided to stick to the market where the prices are reasonable, the clothes aren't too artsy for me, and I can try to bargin...I honesly can say that right now the stores don't have the clothing for me...I even went to the two major department stores in Melbourne (Maury and David Jones) and found the prices too high and the clothing in crappy colors...so I give up for the most part (afterall, anyone that knows me knows I hate shopping for a long time, especially when I come up with almost nothing to help me out)
tonight is a formal dinner at Medley hall, and then I think we're either going out or something...not sure...
